Modal Systems Home PageWhat is a modal system?
A set of all chord types that are transpositionally equivalent to a given chord type. Any of the chord types in the chord type set can define the modal system, but in practice the JNF (Jordan's Normal Form) is the one that is most often used as the representative defining the modal system.
There is a 1-1 correspondence between modal systems and pitch class structures.
